Laser Focusing Head Protection Glass

The laser focusing head assembly efficiently collects laser beam coming from the optical fiber. There are various types available, differing by the work distance and the focal distance involved. It is important for you to protect your laser focusing head. When using a welding laser, during soldering / chain welding, some back splash from the material that is welded might occur. If there is no protection in place, this backsplash is usually deposited optics of the laser focusing head, causing the optics to deteriorate. Excessive accumulation of back splash on the protection lens might decrease the laser’s efficiency. It is recommended that you should install a Laser Focusing Head Protection Glass on all laser focusing head so that it shields the optics from any back splash damage.

We advise users to change laser protection lens periodically to ensure that the laser is working efficiently and prevent back splash from damaging lenses in the focusing head.

We can supply Laser Focusing Head Protection Glass in different sizes / custom sizes.

Instructions: How to change Laser Focusing Head Protection Glass

  1. Unscrew and Remove the first layer of the focusing head to extract the protection lens.
  1. Replace the protection lens with a new piece.
  1. Tighten the protection lens holder and focusing head is ready for use.

The laser is delivered to the workstation by means of a flexible fiber optic cable, in this case, it is delivered by laser optical fiber manufactured by Gold Technic.  Typically the laser is delivered to the work piece at a low power density which requires focusing to enable materials processing, usually welding. The laser focusing head takes the “raw” laser beam and focuses to a small diameter typically less than 0.4mm down to 0.1mm depending on the laser fiber core size. More information about laser fiber can be found on our laser optical fiber page.

For Nd:YAG and fiber lasers there are a number of different types and customizable Laser focusing head. Below shows a few options, including a schematic of a 90 degree focus head and a straight in-line focusing head. Selection will be based on the application, space and budget.

Laser focusing head repair

In the above laser focusing head, it has been badly damaged by accumulation of dirt and backsplash caused by welding. It is important that to clean and change the protection lens cover, and replace it as required because contamination may lead to power transmission loss.

For non-critical welds a loss of 5 percent is not significant, but heavy dirt on the cover slide can lead to a 10 percent power loss, and this is a problem. This puts additional stress on the laser machine and in the long term it will have detrimental effects and may cause the other components in the machine to fail.

We can supply and replace optics in damaged laser focusing heads. We can also custom design laser focusing heads according to application and space availability.

Send in a picture or email us on the parts that require replacement and we will be please to provide the estimate cost of repair. As part of our quality assurance, all laser focusing heads are refitted, ie damaged optics replaced, cleaned and tested before returning them to our customer.

Laser Focusing Head Jewelery chain welding

Laser focusing head for Jewellery chain welding is the latest addition to our laser accessories series. The focusing head is competible with all type of laser welder working in tandum with the automatic chain making machine. The new design eliminates the possibility of machine oil being trapped in the grooves of the connection points, damaging the lens. The combination of precision, working range, and speed delivers high quality welds that can be produced in any direction. Select the right focus head and optics for space, working distance, part access, and tooling accommodation. Offered with either straight or right angle fiber inputs.

New design – Laser Focusing head

With the new cone design, it prevents the backsplash of the melted metals from hitting the lens, therefore prolonging the lifespan of the focusing head. We have also integrated an additional protection lens for the focusing head to prevent contamination from oil and dirt which comes in direct contact with the focusing head during welding. Imported optics are integrated into this new focusing system, bringing laser chain welding to a new level. We have also included inert gas delivery inlet valve for oxidation free welding.

Feel free to email us for more information about the focusing head and the different focusing length and models available.
